What is 5-MeO-DMT (Bufo)?
Our sacrament is 5-MeO-DMT, a powerful entheogen and Divine Medicine. Also known as Bufo, this sacred medicine comes from the glandular secretion of the Sonoran Desert Toad, known as Bufo Alvarius.
5-MeO-DMT (Bufo) as a Sacred Sacrament
At Temple of Eden, we believe Divine Love and Divine Intelligence surround us always. We honor this sacrament as a sacred offering from Mother Nature, one that may allow participants to transcend ego illusion and enter a profound state of Divine connection, unity, surrender, and spiritual remembrance. For many, Bufo opens the doorway to an experience beyond ordinary consciousness. It may bring a sense of returning to Source, dissolving separation, and remembering oneself as part of Divine Creation.
The Spiritual Experience
Every journey is unique. In its highest expression, Bufo may bring participants into expanded states of consciousness, often described as unity with God, Divine Love, Christ Consciousness, Source, or Samadhi. Many participants describe the experience as impossible to fully put into words. Some report being surrounded by vast white light, unconditional love, deep comfort, safety, peace, and a feeling of returning home to the Divine. Others describe receiving insights, spiritual messages, emotional release, or a profound sense that healing has occurred.
The Psychological Effects
Bufo is often associated with ego dissolution, non-dual awareness, surrender, and direct experience of unity. However, the journey can also be intense. Ego dissolution may bring up fear, grief, anger, tears, depersonalization, disorientation, or unresolved trauma. These experiences are usually temporary and are held with care by experienced Temple staff. We encourage participants to surrender, breathe, and trust the process. Sometimes healing feels beautiful; sometimes healing feels uncomfortable. Both can be part of the medicine’s work.
What does 5-MeO-DMT (Bufo) do to the brain?
While this sacrament is not physical death, it facilitates the temporary dissolution of the conditioned self—the identity, stories, fears, defenses, and attachments that make up the ego. To the ego, this can feel frightening; to the soul, it may feel like liberation. The sacrament may temporarily lift participants beyond ordinary identity and into a state of unity, peace, love, and Divine remembrance, allowing participants to view their lives from a much higher perspective. This process includes a “return to innocence,” allowing participants to remember the soul beyond shame, trauma, guilt, and judgment. It may help reconnect with this deeper truth and open the heart to forgiveness, compassion, and self-acceptance.
What to expect during ceremony
- Trusting the Process: Trusting the process means allowing the sacrament to unfold without trying to control it. Trust does not mean forcing yourself to ignore fear; it means preparing sincerely, listening deeply, and surrendering when you feel ready.
- The No-Touch Policy: We maintain a no-touch policy unless touch is necessary for physical safety or clearly requested or initiated by the participant. This policy protects emotional safety, consent, and trust.
- Addressing Fear: Fear is natural. If your body, spirit, or intuition is saying no, honor that. If the fear feels like nervousness before a meaningful transformation, preparation, prayer, breathwork, and education may help you feel grounded.
- Memory of the Journey: Some participants experience partial or complete memory loss. Not remembering does not mean nothing happened. Healing may still unfold through emotions, dreams, body sensations, insights, and integration over time.
How to prepare
Preparation before an entheogenic journey is vital to create a safer and more supportive experience.
- Breathwork: Calms the nervous system, releases stored emotion, and prepares the body for surrender.
- Meditation: Quiets the mind. Practices such as mindfulness, loving kindness, or mantra meditation help participants enter the ceremony with peace.
- Yoga: Aligns the body, breath, and mind; gentle movement supports relaxation and physical awareness.
- Setting Intentions: Intentions are prayers offered to the process for healing, surrender, or clarity, not demands placed on the medicine.
- Preparation Call: A preparation call allows participants to ask questions and ensure they feel emotionally and spiritually prepared.
- Preparation Diet: A clean and mindful diet helps reduce physical complications and aids clarity.

The Heart of 5-MeO-DMT (Bufo)
At its deepest level, the sacrament is an invitation to a profound state of Divine connection, unity, surrender, and spiritual remembrance. It has a remarkable ability to reveal hidden emotions, unresolved grief, trauma, shadow material, patterns, and spiritual truths—showing you what needs healing and allowing you to see yourself and your life from a much higher perspective. Many participants leave ceremony with a renewed sense of returning to Source, dissolving separation, remembering the soul beyond shame, and opening the heart to unconditional love, forgiveness, compassion, and self-acceptance. The sacrament is not a magic cure or instant solution and does not do the life work for you. Rather, the medicine opens the door, offering a temporary glimpse beyond ordinary ego consciousness and inviting you to walk through it, bringing the wisdom of the journey into daily life, relationships, choices, and emotional patterns through integration and continued devotion to your healing.
